I Was Here…Where YOU At?

I was here.  I used to always wonder what would possess a person to scribble those words on walls.  Usually in permanent ink.  And mostly in public bathrooms.  And sometimes on a friend’s Trapper Keeper  (for those of us who are children of the 80’s).  There were even some who were creative enough to put their name in front of it….or even misspell the was – “Bridgette WUZ here”.  I never really understood it….until Beyonce sang a song about it!  Like to hear it, here it go:

If you don’t feel like clicking on the link to watch the video, here are the lyrics:

I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time
Know there was something that, and something that I left behind
When I leave this world, I’ll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember, so they won’t forget

I was here
I lived, I loved
I was here
I did, I’ve done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here

I want to say I lived each day, until I die
And know that I meant something in, somebody’s life
The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference, and this world will see

I was here

I just want them to know
That I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone to hapiness
Left this world a little better just because

I was here.

EVERYONE needs to live.  EVERYONE needs to love.  EVERYONE needs to be loved.  EVERYONE needs to leave their mark so everyone will know you were here.

It is not meant for everyone to be on the level of what I will call “here-ness” as Beyonce, but your “here-ness” is necessary for those in your immediate audience of life.  There is at least one person that you are able to touch is in dire need of what it is you have to give.  Who knows – once you decide to be bold enough scribble those words declaring you ARE here, there is no telling what your audience may grow to!  Or how much your audience will simply GROW.  All because  you had the audacity to be completely who you are.  Period.  So many things get in the way of us being fearful to declare our presence.  We resign ourselves to lives of obscurity and mediocrity, or worse live in the expectation of what others think we should be.  Why should we do that when we were born with the power to be HERE?

Let’s face it.  At some point we will actually not be HERE any longer.  When this happens, what would you want said or remembered about you? That you got a good job, raised some kids & were a good person? All nice, but there’s WAY MORE to me & you than that! You’re doing yourself, those around you & your legacy a great disservice if you simply existed, but weren’t HERE!

I admit, I have been guilty of this.  For many reasons (fear being the biggest reason) I have hesitated in making my “I WAS HERE” mark on the wall of life.  But my reason for being is greater and I know yours is too!  So today… on my personal “new year”, my B’DAY, I’m finally declaring…. I WAS HERE.  Starting with this here blog!  Stay tuned… Who’s HERE with me??
